NAFDAC Shuts Down 150 Shops in Aba’s Eziukwu Market Over ₦5 Billion Counterfeit Product Scandal

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed 150 shops at Eziukwu Market in Aba, Abia State, following the discovery of counterfeit and expired products valued at ₦5 billion. During a two-day enforcement operation on December 16 and 17, 2024, NAFDAC uncovered large-scale production and distribution of fake goods, including beverages, wines, spirits, carbonated drinks, vegetable oils, and revalidated food items such as noodles, powdered milk, and yoghurt.
Dr. Martins Iluyomade, Director of NAFDAC’s South-East Zone, described Eziukwu Market as a hotspot for counterfeit and substandard products, expressing frustration over the market’s persistent illegal activities despite previous commitments by market leaders to expose counterfeiters. NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reiterated the agency’s zero tolerance for such practices and emphasized its unwavering commitmen
